Diaa has 30 years of experience in micro optical systems, including integrated optoelectronics and optical MEMS technology.

Prior to joining SWS Diaa was working as a Technical Consultant for Mentor Graphics Egypt, responsible for building a team working in the Design to Silicon D2S Engineering with emphasis on optical and technology modeling of photolithography processes including the Resolution Enhancement Techniques RET and Optical Proximity Corrections OPC. Before that, he worked with MEMScAP Egypt as head of the optical design group where he led the design and characterization of a 2×2 switch, and a novel VOA (variable Optical Attenuator) achieving the world record of minimum PDL reported for wide dynamic range.

Since 1993, Diaa has been working as a professor at the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Ain-Shams University. Diaa also served as an invited professor at the LCIS (Laboratoire de Conception et d’Integration des Systèmes), at the INPG, France.

Diaa received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in electrical engineering from Ain-Shams University, Cairo, Egypt, and his Ph.D. degree in Optoelectronics from the INPG (Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble), France.
